Whether I have a "knack" for finding crazy projects, or they find me is a debate all its own, but the fact remains, for better or worse, I'm pretty much always cooking up some hair-brained scheme or another. The results are often pretty ridiculous and, well, unnecessary, so naturally I thought of putting some of them up here!..

I'm always down to talk about ridiculous stuff! Drop me a line (evensareodds@trswanson.com) if any of the shinys has you so inspired!

Or check out my etsy for s'more of this kinda thing, or my professional web-portfolio for architecture stuff!

Side Effects

TEDDY: "Do you ever just, like, WORRY about your BRAIN--" ALLISON: "--and how architecture school has completely RUINED it?" TEDDY: "--And that based on its current condition you're going to be legitimately SENILE by your mid-LATE TWENTIES?" ALLISON: "LITERALLY ALL THE TIME."

Yet another conversation I basically had in real life...

And I know you're gonna say this applies to a lot of majors, but I also know there's probably an acceptable number of all-nighters to pull in a 14 week semester, and that number sure as hell isn't 27...

Sign of the Times (AKA, "Madonna and Child")

"See, the Renaissance was an interesting period in Architecture history, because you had all these artistic disciplines running concurrently. They don't have the term "Renaissance Man" for nothing after all: All these guys we study as 'architects' are just as likely to be known for their sculpture or painting. "This is where something like the 'Madonna & Child'-effect, as I like to call it, comes in. What with it being such a popular motif, we have access to a bunch of different architects' interpretations of the same subject! And it's independent of their built works and architectural endeavors, so historians looking back now actually have a sort of litmus gauging the values & greater artistic climate of each generation in which we can understand how Architecture as a discipline engaged and evolved in response to these more fickle socio-political factors. "Which brings us, inevitably, to complete the circle: I give you, my 'Madonna and Child'!" *painting of lady and baby in capes and masks pulling superhero poses*

You gotta hand it to the Mannerists, though: It takes a kind of balls we've largely lost today to decorate your buildings with murals of buildings collapsing on horrified people...

This is the Class We Need...

*"Dealing w/ Life After Architecture School 601"* "Alright. Today's lesson is about what to call unfamiliar people in professional environments you're not maybe used to. Now I now ARCHITECTURE has ruined you because everything we do is on a FIRST NAME BASIS, but that's not always the case."

Or if it's not the class we need right now, it's at least the class we deserve...

Stereotype

Quick Tip!: Worried your outfit plays to much into that trope of Architects wearing black? --> Reverse your belt to the brown side for a splash of colour!

The point is, in case you missed it, I'm not the kind of architect you should take fashion advice from...

Although it does pull the brown from your work boots, so...

Blending In

TEDDY *measuring stairs as stranger is trying to walk by*: "Oh, hi. Don't mind me; I'M AN ARCHITECT."
I realize I've basically made this exact comic several times already and the subsequent gag about a billion times to boot, but this is basically what it actually means to be an architect, so...

Cop Out

*Construction Doc* "Note: Flash Everything, TYP. VIF"

Guess who's doing details and wall sections this week!..

Branching Out

I honestly have no idea how a "street style, anything goes, freestyle design competition" would work, but I like to think that we live in a world where the winning proposal would have swimming-pool-corridors...

Jet Lag

After four and a half years of architecture school, my circadian rhythms work fine; they're just set to cycle on 36 hour days...

Symbiotic

If architect's designed buildings w/out engineers - *collapsed rubble* ~ If engineers designed buildings w/out achitects - "So we forgot to include any windows... or doors..."

'The good news is it's damn near indestructible, the bad news is there're 47 workers trapped inside...'
